Is the MG4 EV still the best value EV in the UK?

The MG4 (SAIC-built, sold globally under the MG badge) was the reference cheap-good EV of 2023–24. Two years and a facelift later, competition has intensified.
The 2025 facelift and range options
51 kWh (350 km WLTP), 64 kWh Long Range (450 km), 77 kWh Extended Range (520 km), and the XPower dual-motor (435 kW, 3.8s 0–100).
Facelift added a bigger 12.8" screen, physical volume knob, revised suspension, and 144 kW DC charging on 64/77 kWh packs.
Why it still drives well
Rear-wheel-drive layout, 50:50 weight distribution, and a genuinely sorted chassis — closer to a BMW i3 in feel than any other €30k EV. Steering is quicker and better weighted than any Chinese-brand rival.
Where it now falls behind
Interior quality lags the BYD Dolphin/Atto 2 and the Renault 5 markedly. Some markets still get the pre-facelift infotainment.
Servicing network in UK is strong; in Germany and France still catching up.
- 01Best-driving cheap EV — still.
- 02Interior quality has become a weak point.
- 03Long Range 64 kWh trim is the pick.
