Is the Xpeng G6 the best Model Y competitor from China? — ChinaEV.Autos guide

The G6 was Xpeng's export breakthrough — an 800V mid-size SUV pitched directly at the Model Y at Model Y money. It's now the most credible non-Tesla choice in this segment.

01

The 800V advantage

87.5 kWh NCM Long Range pack, 570 km WLTP, peak 280 kW DC. 10–80% in 20 minutes on a 350 kW charger — meaningfully faster than the Model Y's ~27 minutes.

This gap is invisible on 150 kW chargers (most European networks today) but real on Ionity, Fastned Ultra and the fastest Allego sites.

XNGP driver-assist

In China, urban NoA is unlocked in 300+ cities and closes hard on Tesla FSD. In Europe, XNGP is currently limited to highway L2+ pending regulatory approval — same story as every other Chinese ADAS.

Hardware (LiDAR + 11 cameras + 5 radars on top trims) is future-proof; software will unlock incrementally.

03

What Tesla still does better

Efficiency: Model Y consumes ~2 kWh/100km less on the same trip. Supercharger network + Plug & Charge. Resale value.

The G6 has closed the interior quality gap decisively but still trails on software polish and OTA maturity.

Key takeaways
  • 01G6 = faster charging + comparable price + XNGP hardware.
  • 02Model Y = better efficiency, network, resale.
  • 03Test drive both — the G6's ride is softer, the Model Y sportier.
