Do Chinese EVs work with UK and EU CCS2 chargers? — ChinaEV.Autos guide

One of the most common concerns for import-curious buyers is whether Chinese EVs plug into European infrastructure. The answer for factory-export cars is unambiguously yes.

01

How the port is different in China

China uses GB/T 20234 for both AC (Type 2-lookalike) and DC (larger, dual-signal).

European versions replace both connectors with CCS2 (Type 2 AC + CCS2 DC combo).

02

What about grey imports?

A grey-imported car with a GB/T DC port will not fit an Ionity or BP Pulse charger.

GB/T-to-CCS2 adapters exist but are typically limited to 60 kW and are not certified by most public networks.

03

AC charging at home

All Chinese EVs sold in Europe support Type 2 AC up to 11 kW three-phase; UK single-phase installations run at 7 kW.

Key takeaways
  • 01Factory-export = CCS2 native, no adapter needed.
  • 02Grey imports may have GB/T DC — verify before importing.
  • 03AC Type 2 charging works identically across brands.
